John Kerry Says Washington Budget is Out of Touch with American Values
John Kerry: “The votes this week weren’t just
ticks in the won-loss column; they were assaults on our nation’s character.
Honesty, Opportunity and Responsibility were all cut from this budget. And these
cuts should give us all cause for concern, because in the end budgets are a statement
of your priorities. They are your values backed up by dollars and cents.”

John Kerry Calls for Election Reform:
Free and fair elections are the foundation of our democracy. In the last year, millions more Americans registered and went to the polls than ever before. We saw millions in Iraq and Afghanistan vote for the first time in their lives. Yet, thousands upon thousands of Americans still fear that when they walk into the polls to vote, there is a very real chance that their vote will not be counted or they will lose the opportunity to vote at all because they are forced to stand in line for hours due to a shortage of machines.

John Kerry Says Military Families Must be Part of Supplemental
It's the right thing to do for Congress to stand by military families as part
of the supplemental funding that will soon face a vote in the United States Senate.
Starting with the coming debate on the supplemental, I will fight to pass as
much of my Military Family Bill of Rights as possible. There's no time to wait.
Congress must act now.

Statement by John Kerry on State of the Union Address
"President Bush said tonight that the state
of our union is strong and confident, but millions of Americans know
it can and must be stronger. The best way we can instill real confidence
in their future is if we follow the true mandate of the last election
-- a mandate for unity and true bipartisanship. The political campaigns
are over and now we must get down to work. For the 11 million children
in this country without health care, we must make our union stronger.
For our brave soldiers in Iraq and their families, we must act now in
the wake of the Iraqi elections to give them reasons to be as confident
about their future as they are courageous under fire."

Senator John Kerry Opposes Nomination Of Dr. Condoleezza Rice for Secretary
of State
I appreciate Dr. Rice’s willingness to stay late last evening to have an exchange with the committee on the critical foreign policy and security questions before us.
“After serious consideration, I have decided to vote against this nomination. Dr. Rice is a principal architect, implementer, and defender of a series of administration policies that have not made our country as secure as we should be and have alienated much-needed allies in our common cause of winning the war against terrorism.

Senator Kerry on the Tsunami Tragedy
Our hearts break for the victims of the tsunami in South Asia, even as
we marvel at the response and generosity of thousands upon thousands
of Americans who joined the relief effort. This is an opportunity for the United
States
to show global leadership. I recently joined with my colleagues in
the Senate to unanimously pass a bipartisan resolution to help the millions of
survivors
who need our help in the wake of this disaster. In this resolution,
we gave our assurances that the United States is committed to providing long-term
relief and assistance efforts to rebuild the region. I am committed
to ensuring
our government does what it can and must in the face of this tragedy.
Private donations can also help families who are suffering. If you can, I urge
you
to join with your fellow Americans and concerned citizens worldwide
to contribute to these efforts. Donations can be made directly through USAID’s
website.
