Internship Opportunities

Senate internships are a wonderful means of learning the inner workings of the federal government and the legislative process. I welcome students to work in any of my Missouri offices or my Washington, DC office.

Responsibilities

Interns in my offices have a number of responsibilities ranging from administrative tasks and office duties to aiding the press secretary, legislative assistants and constituent case workers. Tasks assigned may include answering phones, greeting guests, researching and preparing legislative projects for the Senator, organizing constituent mail, drafting press releases, and sitting in on constituent meetings.

Application Process

The internship is unpaid but many colleges and universities provide credit from such internships. All college students are invited to apply for internships in my office however, priority is given to Missouri's students.

There are three different sessions of the intern program:

  • Fall academic semester (September - December)
  • Spring academic semester (January - May)
  • Summer Session (May - August)

To apply for an internship please submit a cover letter, resume and a writing sample (no longer than 3 pages). Be sure to indicate the intern session and office you are seeking. All applications should be faxed to my Washington, D.C. office to the attention of "Intern Coordinator".
