Boucher Announces Federal Funding for Twin Community VFD (March 12, 2008)

BOUCHER ANNOUNCES FEDERAL FUNDING FOR

TWIN COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT

$38,000 Federal Grant Will Enable the Purchase of New Firefighting Equipment

(Washington, D.C.) - U.S. Representative Rick Boucher announced today that, at his urging, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is providing a federal grant in the amount of $38,000 to the Twin Community Volunteer Fire Department.  "This provision of federal funding will enable the Twin Community Volunteer Fire Department to purchase a cascade system to fill self-contained breathing apparatus packs. The new system will provide an added measure of safety for the Department members," Boucher said.

With the benefit of the federal funds, the Department will purchase a cascade system, which is used to fill self-contained breathing apparatus packs. Currently, the department must drive to Radford or Dublin to fill the Department members' self contained breathing apparatus packs.

The Twin Community Volunteer Fire Department provides fire protection to Northeastern Pulaski County including the communities of Parrott and Belspring. The Department is made up of 20 members, all of whom serve on a voluntary basis.

"I am pleased that the Department of Homeland Security has provided this funding to the Twin Community Volunteer Fire Department.  It is important to ensure that our fire and rescue personnel have access to the best equipment and today's announcement will help further this goal," Boucher concluded.
