BOUCHER SECURES FEDERAL FUNDING FOR
PULASKI FIRE DEPARTMENT
$26,244
Federal Grant
Will Enable Purchase of New Firefighting
Equipment
(Washington, D.C.) - U.S. Representative Rick Boucher announced today that,
at his urging, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, through its Assistance
to Firefighters Grant Program, is providing a federal grant in the amount of
$26,244 to the the Pulaski Fire Department. "This provision of federal funding will enable the
purchase of new turnout gear as well as a washer to effectively clean the gear
for the Pulaski Fire Department, which will provide an added measure of safety
for Department members and the communities they serve," Boucher
said.
With the benefit of the federal funds, the
Department will purchase 35 sets of new wild-land turnout gear. The new gear is
light weight and designed to be worn by Department members when fighting forest
fires. Additionally, the Department will also purchase an extractor which is
used to clean turnout gear. Currently, the Department owns a standard washing
machine which is unable to effectively clean and remove harmful substances from
the gear.
The Pulaski Fire Department provides fire
protection to the Town of Pulaski and its
surrounding areas in Pulaski County. The Department has 33 members, 23
of whom serve on a voluntary basis.
"I am pleased that the Department of
Homeland Security has provided this funding to the Pulaski Fire Department. It
is important to ensure that our fire and rescue personnel have access to the
best equipment and today's announcement will help further this goal,"
Boucher
concluded.
