Conrad Helps Bring More Doctors to Rural America

Senator Conrad recently announced the extension of the Conrad State 30 Program, a popular initiative that draws doctors to regions with a shortage of physicians. The bill reauthorizing the program passed Congress with bipartisan support and was signed into law by the President.

Senator Conrad first created the State 30 program in 1994 in an effort to increase health care accessibility for people who live in rural areas. The program has proven to be extremely successful. In 2003, the Conrad State 30 program placed more than 1,000 doctors in medically underserved communities across the nation. North Dakota receives more than a dozen doctors a year through the Conrad State 30 program – almost all of them in rural counties.
