Agriculture |
Agriculture policy affects our lives every day. It’s about safe food, clean water, resource conservation, and nutrition. I am focusing on these and other issues in Congress. I believe that we can do more to preserve healthy specialty crops in California, invest in conservation programs, and provide nutrition assistance to those in need in our country. And, I am dedicated to making sure our agriculture policies and laws support a free market for agriculture so that the United States does not waste taxpayer dollars. Recently, local officials detected an invasive moth species that threatened California agriculture. Many of my constituents raised serious concerns about the government’s eradication plan, so I led a group of my congressional colleagues in sending a letter to the USDA and the California Dept. of Food and Agriculture, urging them to exercise utmost caution in addressing the infestation. The next month, the state called off the controversial aerial spraying portion of the eradication program. Below find my letter and CDFA Secretary Kawamura’s statement on this issue.
