NATIONAL SECURITY:

I believe in a strong America and an America that is respected. I believe in an America that leads but also listens. I believe in an America that cherishes freedom, safeguards our people, lifts up others, forges alliances and commands respect.

Today, America faces several major challenges to its national security. First and foremost, we must win the global war on terrorism. To do so, we need to refocus our efforts on the front line in the fight against Al Qaeda, which remains in Afghanistan and Pakistan. The next challenge is to stop the spread of nuclear, biological and chemical weapons, wherever they present a threat.

To meet these challenges we must utilize every available resource to defeat the terrorists before they can strike at us. It should be our mission to transform the world's most powerful military to address the modern threats of terrorism and proliferation. We must deploy all the forces in America's arsenal our diplomacy, our intelligence system, our economic power, and the appeal of our values and ideas to make America more secure and prevent a new generation of terrorists from growing powerful enough to harm us or our allies.
