Duarte, Calif. - Congresswoman Hilda L. Solis (CA-32), in collaboration with the City of Duarte, hosted a Youth and Family Job Fair at Duarte Park. The event featured 50 employers and 30 youth resource agencies.
“This event brings together employment resources for families in our community who need help finding a job in the recent economic downturn. Unemployment in California is 6.8 percent, which is higher than many other parts of our country,” said Congresswoman Solis. “I hope today’s Youth and Family Job Resource fair will help our community get connected to the jobs and summer youth programs available to the teenagers and families.”
Participating exhibitors included: U.S. Census Bureau, Internal Revenue Service, Los Angeles Sheriff’s, FedEx, Foothill Transit, City of Hope, Southern California Edison Co., Wells Fargo, State Farm, Southern California Gas Co., California Highway Patrol, Schaeffer Ambulance, Salvation Army, Goodwill, U. S. Postal Service, AT&T, Kaiser Permanente, U.S. Secret Service, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, UPS, Los Angeles Police Department, and the U.S. Forest Service.
This week, Solis voted to extend unemployment benefits for an additional 13 weeks for those who have exhausted 26 weeks of regular benefits. President Bush is expected to sign this bill into law.
