Household Electricity Reports

The Household Electricity Report series is the newest series in the Regional Energy Profiles group. The series consists of brief analysis reports on the amount of electricity consumed annually by U.S. households for each of several end uses, including space heating and cooling, water heating, lighting, and the operation of more than two dozen appliances.

The first report, U.S. Household Electricity Report, was published on July 14, 2005. Four regional reports also have been released (see sidebar). When the series is complete, it will include regional reports on the nine U.S. Census Divisions and the four most populous States—California, Florida, New York, and Texas.

The reports present newly released regional statistics for 2001 and are the only source of comprehensive, integrated regional statistics on electricity consumption by individual end use. The statistics are derived from data collected by the Residential Energy Consumption Survey, a household survey conducted every 4 years by the Energy Information Administration (EIA). Similar State statistics from the 2005 survey are anticipated to be available in 2007.
