Judge Pickering earned his BA degree from the University of Mississippi and a juris doctor degree from the University of Mississippi School of Law, graduating with the highest grades in his class.

Cochran said, "Judge Pickering is a well qualified nominee for the Court of Appeals because of his outstanding experience and leadership."

"I am very pleased that President Bush has chosen to nominate Judge Charles Pickering for this very important position, and I will work closely with my Senate colleagues for his confirmation," Lott said. "Judge Pickering has a wealth of legal experience and an exemplary record of commitment to public service. I know he will serve with distinction on the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals."
