Levin to Receive Award From Military Officers Association

WASHINGTON – Sen. Carl Levin (D-MI) today will receive the highest award granted by the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) in recognition of his strong support for military men and women and their families. Levin is one of ten recipients of the award.

In addition to Levin, the other recipients being awarded by the MOAA are Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-GA), Rep. Ike Skelton (D-MO) , Rep.Vic Snyder (D-AR), The General Electric Company, Mr. Morrill Worcester, LTG James T. Scott, USA (Ret), ABC television reporter Bob Woodruff and his wife Lee, and congressional staffers Stacie Oliver and Joel Rubin. The awards will be presented this evening at a ceremony in the Cannon House Office Building.

Levin and Skelton, the chairmen of the Senate and House Armed Services Committees, will receive the Colonel Arthur T. Marix Congressional Leadership Award for their leadership on the military pay raise and wounded warriors’ legislation. Col. Marix founded MOAA on February 23, 1929 and served as MOAA’s first President until 1944.

The MOAA is the nation’s largest veteran’s organization for active duty and retired military officers and their families. MOAA has awarded the Marix and Distinguished Service Awards since 1997. The congressional staff member award was established in 2000.
