Senate Committee on Armed Services The Senate Committee on Armed Services has jurisdiction over the Department of Defense, military development, national security and all other matters generally necessary for the common defense. Subcommittee on Strategic Forces Senator Sessions is a ranking member of the Strategic Forces Subcommittee. Responsiblility for nuclear and strategic forces, intelligence programs, space programs, and ballistic missile defense all fall under the Subcomittee on Strategic Forces. Subcommittee on Airland The Subcommittee on Airland is responsible for Army and Air Force programs and the Navy and Marine Corps' technical aviation programs. Also oversees the National Guard and Reserve equipment. Subcommittee on Seapower As a part of the Senate Committee on Armed Services, the Subcommittee on Seapower oversees all maritime issues and Navy and Marine Corps programs. Senate Committee on the Judiciary The Senate Committee on the Judiciary was first authorized on December 10, 1816. The Committee has one of the broadest jurisdictions in the Senate, ranging from criminal justice to antitrust and intellectual property law. Subcommittee on Administrative Oversight and the Courts This subcommittee oversees court administration and management, judicial rules and procedures and legal reform and liability issues. The subcommittee also has oversight of the Department of Justice grant programs, as well as government waste and fraud and the oversight of the Foreign Claims Settlement Commission. Subcommittee on Crime and Drugs The subcommittee on Crime and Drugs oversees many branches of the Department of Justice, the Secret Service, and the U.S. Sentencing Commission. Additionally, this committee deals with youth violence, national drug control. Subcommittee on Immigration, Border Security and Citizenship Immigration, citizenship and refugee laws are all studied in the Subcommittee on Immigration, Border Security and Citizenship. This committee also has oversight of the Department of Homeland Security. Members also help to oversee refugee laws and internally displaced persons. Subcommittee on Terrorism, Technology and Homeland Security The Subcommitee on Terrorism, Technology and Homeland Security oversees divisions of both the Department of Homeland Security and the State Department. This subcommittee is particularly concerned with anti-terrorism enforcement and policy and the laws governing information. Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources The roots of the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources go back to one of the first standing committees appointed by the Senate -- the Committee on Public Lands. The Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources legislates over nuclear energy, conservation, public lands and their renewable resources and water resources. Subcommittee on Energy The Subcommittee on Energy has oversight and legislative responsibilities for: nuclear, coal and synthetic fuels research and development. Subcommittee on National Parks The Subcommittee on National Parks oversees all National Parks, monuments, military parks and battlefields, the Land and Water Conservation Fund, and the preservation of other lands of public interest. Subcommittee on Public Lands and Forests Working with the Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Forest Service, the Senate Committee on Public Lands and Forests has oversight and legislative responsibilities for public lands, the establishment of wildlife refuges, water rights, and mining laws. Senate Committee on the Budget The Senate Committee on the Budget is one of the youngest committes, being established in 1974 to to help guide and formulate the nation's fiscal policy. The committee exists to create, enforce and manage the annual Federal budget, including facilitating an understanding of that budget.
