Circular Letter No. 571

October 21, 2004

TO: Printing and Publishing Officials of the Federal Government

SUBJECT: Rider Orders for Emergency Response Guidebook 2004

The Government Printing Office (GPO) is now accepting rider orders for the Department of Transportation (DOT) publication entitled Emergency Response Guidebook 2004 (ERG2004). The ERG2004 was developed jointly by DOT and the Canadian and Mexican governments for use by firefighters, police, and other emergency services personnel who may be the first to arrive at the scene of a transportation accident involving hazardous materials. It is primarily a guide to aid first responders in quickly identifying the specific or generic classification of the materials involved and protecting themselves and the general public during the initial response phase.

Although the exact rider rate has not yet been determined, your requisition prior to production allows the printing of these copies during the regular press run. This results in substantial savings, which we are then able to pass along to you. For your budgeting purposes, we estimate that the rider rate will be between $2 and $3 for each copy. (Please note that the rider rate applies to single destination, local delivery orders only. Mailing costs, if incurred, will comprise an additional charge.)

To take advantage of the rider rate, forward your requisitions (Standard Form 1) to GPO by November 2, 2004. Note: Although the ERG2004 was originally published in English, Spanish, and French, this Circular Letter applies to the English version, which is the only version being reprinted at this time. Please specify DOT requisition number 4-74763 and GPO jacket number 312-433 on your requisition.

If you have any questions about the information contained in this Circular Letter, please contact your GPO Agency Publishing Specialist or call Agency Publishing Services on 202-512-0230 or 202-512-0238.

Sincerely,

JIM BRADLEY
