Brian on the Issues | |
Agriculture | | | Agriculture is an integral part of Western New York’s economy. From dairy farms to grape orchards, the industry brings in over $1.9 billion in sales in Erie and Chautauqua Counties alone.
Economic Development | | | Brian’s top priority in Congress is fostering economic development in Western New York and bringing jobs to the hardworking men and women of Erie and Chautauqua Counties.
Education | | | In order to give our children the skills they need to succeed, quality education must be a right of every child, and not just a privileged few. As a former teacher and as a parent, Brian believes that schools should be held to high standards of excellence and that teachers must be given the tools they need to teach.
Energy | | | Ensuring Availability, Security, and Investing in the Future
Brian is leading the fight in Congress to reduce our nation’s dependence on foreign oil, to decrease rising oil and gas prices, to increase our national security, to protect our environment, and to encourage investment in renewable energy sources.
Environment | | | Brian is committed to preserving clean air and clean water because he believes we have a moral obligation to protect the health of Western New York families and to leave our land in good condition for future generations.
Flood Insurance | | | The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) was established with the passage of the National Flood Insurance Act of 1968, as a federal program requiring property owners in communities designated as being in a floodplain to purchase insurance as protection against flood losses.
Gas Prices | | | Gas prices continue to soar in Western New York and across the country, taking a toll on Americans’ pockets not only at the pump, but by driving up the cost of many goods that must be transported to market.
Healthcare | | | Healthcare in the United States is in crisis; forty-five million Americans go without health insurance and millions more cannot afford their insurance premiums.
Hydropower | | | Western New York’s natural resources helped speed its economic rise as an industrial leader in the 19th and 20th centuries; Brian believes it’s time to rely on those natural resources yet again. Specifically, the low cost hydropower generated by the Niagara River was utilized by local manufacturers and industry to expand, develop and build strong the Western New York economy.
Labor | | | Brian comes from a hardworking family and a working class neighborhood, and is a leading voice in Congress in calling for faster job creation, fair wages, workplace safety, and stronger pension plans.
Medicare & Medicaid | | | Brian supports a voluntary prescription drug program under Medicare so that seniors will have access to the care and drugs they need. He is working to ensure that no New York senior is worse off under the new plan than the old. He also believes in a reform package that reduces the burden on local taxpayers and ensures that the more than 40 million Americans receiving services under Medicaid now, can still get the healthcare they need.
Our Troops and Our Veterans | | | Western New York is the proud home to a large number of our nation’s veterans. In the 27th Congressional District alone, the Veterans Health Administration (VA) serves approximately 23,000 veterans, while another 35,000 veterans in the district are eligible to receive care.
Peace Bridge | | | The people of Western New York have had close relationships with our Canadian neighbors for hundreds of years. Our communities are woven together and our economies are interdependent.
Skyway | | | Brian's efforts with regard to the Buffalo Skyway are not so much an attempt to tear something down as an attempt to build something up – an attempt to make the physical improvements necessary to pave the way for access and development at Buffalo’s Outer Harbor.
Social Security | | | For 70 years, Social Security has provided necessary support to multitudes; ensuring that older citizens can retire without the fear of poverty, that surviving spouses and children can carry on after the death of a loved one, and that the disabled can receive needed assistance to live full and productive lives.
Waterfront | | | Connecting our developing waterfront to our central business district is essential to downtown revitalization.
