Fortenberry Holds Energy Conference with University of Nebraska
Event Focuses on Renewable Energy Development and Potential in Nebraska

Lincoln, NE - On Thursday, August 10, 2006, Congressman Jeff Fortenberry sponsored an educational conference on renewable energy, An Energy Conversion: Making Renewable Energy America's Energy, in conjunction with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The event focused on five key areas of renewable energy production: ethanol, biodiesel, biomass, wind energy, and public policy assistance. Fortenberry made the following statement.

'Nebraska is a leader in America's renewable energy future. Today we highlighted some of our most creative and innovative renewable energy producers and experienced policy experts.

Clean renewable energy strengthens our nation by meeting multiple public policy objectives. It reduces our dependence on foreign energy, is environmentally sensitive, and creates economic opportunities for America's farmers and rural communities.

From ethanol to biodiesel, biomass, and wind, renewable energy holds tremendous promise and opportunity for Nebraska energy consumers, ag producers, and rural areas. I was very pleased to partner with the University of Nebraska to help tell the story of renewable energy successes and opportunities in our state.' Featured sessions included Nebraskans using cutting edge technologies to produce energy from farm wastes, an update from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, news from leaders of the University's new Center for Energy Sciences Research and Nebraska bioenergy groups, and information from public policy experts about governmental assistance for renewable energy development projects. Some of the newest renewable fuels vehicles were also on display.

A full agenda of the day's events is attached. A list of federal legislation Fortenberry has sponsored or cosponsored regarding renewable energy is available upon request.
