Fortenberry Facilitates Farm Bill Discussion
House Ag Committee Receives Request for Field Hearing in Eastern Nebraska

Washington D.C. - U.S. Congressman Jeff Fortenberry commented today on the importance of Nebraskans involvement in policy discussions about the 2007 Farm Bill:

Nebraska should have significant input in future farm policy discussions, Fortenberry said. My office is working with House Agriculture Committee leadership to potentially host a congressional farm bill hearing in Nebraska, giving our farmers further opportunity to communicate directly with policymakers.

I believe there are three emerging opportunities in agriculture: agricultural entrepreneurship and good rural development, ag-based energy production, and important conservation and environmental goals. Nebraska can play a key role in furthering these important farm policy trends.

I commend the Governor and the Nebraska Department of Agriculture for their work in initiating constructive policy discussions with producers across the state and look forward to federal hearings.

Attached is Congressman Fortenberrys letter to House Agriculture Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte requesting a congressional farm bill hearing be held in eastern Nebraska.
