Fortenberry Statement on Reopening of Canada Border to Cattle Trade

Washington D.C. - Congressman Jeff Fortenberry issued the following statement on todays ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit to stay the preliminary injunction against the importation of cattle from Canada:

I support the opening of borders when appropriate safeguards are in place. The Ninth Circuit court of appeals has determined that the USDAs decision to open the border was prudent and did not endanger our food supply, and that the border should be open during any future court action against it. I hope that all our trading partners will agree that the quality of Americas beef is backed by sound science, and seek rapidly to remove artificial barriers to safe and smart trade.
