Fortenberry Joins Bipartisan Group to Introduce Fuels Security Act of 2005

Washington D.C. - Congressman Jeff Fortenberry, member of the House Agriculture Committee, joined a bipartisan group of House members Wednesday to announce the introduction of The Fuel Security Act of 2005. Fortenberry is an original cosponsor of the legislation that would create a renewable fuels standard mandating the use of 8 billion gallons of renewable fuels by 2012.

The Fuel Security Act meets multiple public policy objectives, Fortenberry said. Ethanol and biodiesel reduce our dependence on foreign energy, are environmentally sensitive, and create economic opportunities for Nebraskas farmers and rural communities.

Renewable fuels are good for Nebraska, and theyre good for America. Thats why this bill enjoys broad bipartisan support, Fortenberry said.

The Fuel Security Act of 2005 emphasizes the value of renewable fuels just as the House is beginning to consider comprehensive energy legislation.

Renewable fuels are a clean, sustainable energy source that America can grow on for years, Fortenberry said. They should be at the center of Americas long-term, comprehensive energy policy.

Fortenberry was joined at the press conference by other cosponsors, including Nebraskas Rep. Tom Osborne and Iowas Rep. Steve King.
