Fortenberry Congratulates Rural Nebraska Business for Winning National Award Innovation, Stewardship Help Murdock Company Earn Prestigious Honor

LINCOLN, NE - Congressman Jeff Fortenberry praised Oxbow Pet Products and owner John Miller for winning the Small Business Administrations Exporter of the Year Award. Tonight in Washington Miller and his wife Pat will accept the award at an official ceremony held by the SBA.

Oxbow Pet Products began when Miller and his wife Pat began packaging their own hay products for pet food in the early 1990s. Based near Murdock, Nebraska, the business employs 45 people and does business in 22 countries.

I am not at all surprised at the remarkable success Mr. John Miller has experienced with Oxbow Pet Products, Fortenberry said. A man of great vision and determination, John combined new marketing innovations with an old-fashioned farmers work ethic to grow this remarkable small business beyond his garage to international markets.

As agriculture and farm policy takes new shape in the coming months and years, agricultural entrepreneurship and conservation practices that promote environmental stewardship will offer rural America new opportunities. In Oxbow, John has wedded these emerging opportunities and the results have been tremendous. His example offers inspiration and leadership for those working to make small rural businesses flourish and our small towns and rural areas strong.

Selected among hundreds of nominated businesses across America, Oxbow Pet Products is the first Nebraska business to win SBAs National Exporter of the Year distinction.
