Fortenberry Congratulates City of Plattsmouth for Recognition as a

“Preserve America Community”

Washington, DC - Congressman Jeff Fortenberry congratulated the City of Plattsmouth for being the first city in Nebraska to receive designation as a “Preserve America Community.” A certificate of recognition was presented to Ms. Pat Joyner, Program Manager of the Plattsmouth Main Street Association, by First Lady Laura Bush during a special reception this morning.

“Plattsmouth is a wonderful Nebraska community,” Fortenberry said. “It takes pride in a strong sense of place, its natural beauty, and the preservation of its history. I applaud Plattsmouth for its historic preservation efforts and congratulate those who have worked so hard to make it Nebraska’s first ‘Preserve America Community’.”

The “Preserve America Community” program was developed to recognize communities that protect and celebrate their heritage, use their historic assets for economic development and community revitalization, and encourage people to experience and appreciate local historic resources through education and heritage tourism programs. Communities interested in seeking designation as a “Preserve American Community” can find application information online at http://www.preserveamerica.gov/ .
