Fortenberry Announces Military Academy Nominees
Seven Area Students Receive Nominations to Top Military Academies

Washington D.C. - United States Congressman Jeff Fortenberry selected seven students from eastern Nebraska to receive nominations to America's top military academies.

'A military academy appointment is a notable achievement. Nominees must show leadership, strength of character, and an intense desire to serve our nation,' Fortenberry said. 'I am pleased to nominate these young men and women for military academy appointments this year.'

Below are the 2006 nominees:

John Grabowski from Lincoln East High School. John is the son of John and Karen Grabowski and has been nominated to the United States Merchant Marine Academy.

Park Sloup from Lincoln Southwest High School. Park is the son of Steve and Lori Sloup and has been nominated to the United States Military Academy.

Pat Hybl from Lincoln Lutheran High School. Pat is the son of Mike Hybl and Chris Dibbern and has been nominated to the United States Air Force and Naval Academies.

Jerra Turner from Norfolk Senior High School. Jerra is the daughter of Keith and Rose Brown and has been nominated to the United States Air Force Academy.

Tom Kenny from Mt. Michael High School at Elkhorn. Tom is the son of Tim and Sara Kenny of Eagle and has been nominated to the United States Military Academy.

Cole Wagner from West Point Junior-Senior High School. Cole is the son of Hal and Carol Wagner and has been nominated to the United States Air Force and Naval Academies.

Steve Young from Lyons-Decatur Northeast School. Steve is the son of Mike Young and DeAnne Kempcke and has been nominated to the United States Military Academy.

The academies will now consider each nominee for an appointment.

'I am confident these individuals will represent Nebraska well in their future endeavors,' Fortenberry said. 'Please join me in congratulating them on their exceptional achievements.'
