House Passes Fortenberry Measure on Lewis and Clark Initiative

Washington, DC - The House of Representatives today passed the Consolidated Natural Resources Act, S. 2739, which includes an initiative by Congressman Jeff Fortenberry to improve the Missouri River Basin Lewis and Clark Interpretive Trail and Visitor Center in Nebraska City.

“The Missouri River Basin Lewis and Clark Interpretive Trail and Visitor Center is a real gem for Nebraska and a landmark for America.  It is the only visitor center or museum in the United States to focus on the flora, fauna and scientific discoveries recorded by Lewis and Clark,” Fortenberry said.

Fortenberry’s legislation transfers ownership of Center from the Department of the Interior to the non-profit “Missouri River Basin Lewis and Clark Interpretive Trail and Visitor Center Foundation, Inc.”

“This is the culmination of nearly 20 years of work.  It is a continuation of efforts begun by former Congressman Doug Bereuter, community leader Nancy Hoch, and the entire community of Nebraska City,” Fortenberry said.
