Fortenberry Meets with King Abdullah of Jordan

Washington, DC - Congressman Jeff Fortenberry, along with the three other founding members of the newly formed Congressional Friends of Jordan Caucus, met with King Abdullah II and Queen Rania of Jordan today.

“Jordan is an invaluable friend to the United States.  It was a distinct honor to host King Abdullah and Queen Rania today at the formal introduction of the Congressional Friends of Jordan Caucus, which I believe will provide an excellent opportunity to strengthen our nations’ efforts to foster peace, stability, and opportunity throughout the Middle East,” said Fortenberry.

King Abdullah II has governed Jordan since 1999, when he succeeded to the throne upon the death of his father, the late King Hussein.  In addition to his work on the Middle East peace process, the King has shown, through his leadership, much support for displaced Iraqi persons.

“King Abdullah has carried a very significant burden of providing assistance for Iraqi refugees,” Fortenberry said.  “He has shown how goodness and kindness can triumph over the forces of chaos and fear.  It is my hope that his example will inspire leaders throughout the region to reach out to the vulnerable and oppressed who long to live in peace.”

Fortenberry serves as vice-chair of the bipartisan Congressional Friends of Jordan Caucus.  The caucus will work to support a strong relationship between Jordan and the United States and to facilitate the exchange of ideas between Members of the House of Representatives and Jordanian officials.
