Retail Unbundling - Alabama

 

Status: The state has no unbundled service programs for residential customers.

 

Overview: There is no action pending in the Alabama State Legislature or the Public Service Commission (PSC) regarding residential natural gas unbundling. The PSC staff is monitoring the natural gas unbundling activities and results of neighboring states. Industrial and commercial customers can contract directly for their gas or use the utility as an agent. These contracts are approved by the PSC as special contracts.

 

EIA State Data: In 2003, Alabama had 809,002 residential and 65,313 commercial customers who consumed 47 and 25 billion cubic feet of natural gas, respectively. The average prices paid for natural gas purchased from local distribution companies by residential and commercial customers were $11.81 and $10.07 per thousand cubic feet, respectively.
