Retail Unbundling - Mississippi


Status: The state has no unbundled service programs for residential customers.


Overview: No retail unbundling program is being considered at this time by either the Mississippi Public Service Commission or the state legislature. Unbundled service has been available to large-volume commercial and industrial customers since the late 1980s.


EIA State Data: In 2002, Mississippi had 435,021 residential and 50,356 commercial customers. They consumed 26 and 21 billion cubic feet of natural gas, respectively. The average prices paid for natural gas purchased from local distribution companies by residential and commercial customers were $7.76 and $6.45 per thousand cubic feet, respectively.
