Retail Unbundling - Connecticut
Status: The state has no unbundled service programs for residential customers.
Overview: No retail unbundling program is being actively considered at this time by either the Connecticut Department of Public Utility Control (DPUC) or the state legislature. Industrial and commercial customers have been able to receive unbundled service from local distribution companies (LDCs) since April 1996. There are no minimum volume requirements for industrial or commercial customers that want this service. Multi-family customers (with six or more dwelling units supplied through one meter) are also eligible to purchase their gas directly from a marketer under an agreed-upon pricing arrangement.
EIA State Data: In 2001, Connecticut had 458,105 residential and 50,415 commercial customers. They consumed 41 and 44
billion cubic feet of natural gas, respectively. The average prices paid for natural gas purchased from LDCs by residential and
commercial customers were $12.20 and $7.68 per thousand cubic feet, respectively. The average city gate price in Connecticut
was $8.12 per thousand cubic feet.
