Electric Power - Power Partners Resource Guide

The Power PartnersSM Resource Guide (PPRG) is a Web-based resource developed to help electric power companies undertake voluntary actions to reduce, avoid, or sequester greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and/or reduce emissions intensity.

The PPRG is designed to help companies identify GHG emission or emission intensity reduction opportunities and find the latest, "state-of-the-art" information on a variety of topic areas through the use of links to credible Websites. The Guide also creates a dialogue between people implementing projects and those wanting to learn, by allowing companies to contribute information and establish points of contact for information on successful projects. The PPRG features sections on the following area of GHG reduction opportunities:

  • Reducing GHG Intensity at Fossil-Fueled Plants
  • Power Generation for Non-Fossil Sources
  • End-Use Energy Efficiency
  • Electricity Transmission and Distribution
  • Carbon Sequestration
  • Reducing non-CO2 GHG Emissions
  • Other GHG-Reducing Activities

In each section, numerous types of GHG reduction activities are presented. Each activity is first introduced with text explaining the relevance of the topic area to climate change. Following this is a Resource Section with a listing of sites presenting more in-depth information and/or specific opportunities. There is a section with links at the end of each topic allowing companies to list their projects which will help create an ongoing, updated set of case studies.

Since its introduction in 2006, the PPRG was attracted substantial and growing interest to the website. As of early 2008, traffic to the website was growing rapidly and running at a rate of over 100,000 unique visitors per year.

The PPRG is intended as a "living document," growing and adapting over time to accommodate changing circumstances, new information, and user-provided examples. Users are encouraged to use the feedback options to submit information and ideas to the PPRG.
