First Announcement and Call for Papers and Posters

Deadline for submissions: March 6, 2009

The American Water Works Association and the Public Utilities Board of Singapore invite you to make submissions for the Global Conference on Microbial Contaminates in Drinking Water. Microbiological waterborne disease remains a significant concern for the worldwide water community. Whether it’s investigating an emerging pathogen or developing a new control strategy, the challenges facing water supply professionals, public health professionals, and regulatory agencies are daunting.

This event will provide a comprehensive forum for the exchange of up-to-the-minute information and cutting-edge ideas relating to this critical public health issue. Special areas of concern include human health, risk and policy issues, detection technology, treatment and management strategies, tropical water quality issues, water security, and disaster management and response.

Presentation Format
Oral presentations will be part of a technical session on a select topic. Presentations are to be made in English and will be 20 minutes in length followed by a 10-minute discussion period. Non-native English speakers are welcome. Poster Presentations will be on display with set hours for the author to be available for question-and-answers. Posters are to be presented in English.

Fees
Presenters at the conference must pay their own travel expenses.
AWWA members will receive a 10% discount on their conference registration.

Proceedings
Proceedings on CD-ROM will be included in the registration fee and will be available at the conference. All author(s) must agree to submit an electronic manuscript or copy of their presentation to the organizers by August 10, 2009. All authors must also agree to allow their manuscripts to be reproduced as part of the conference proceedings and for their abstracts to be listed on AWWA’s website.

Topics to be covered at the Global Conference on Microbial Contaminates in Drinking Water, Singapore include, but are not limited to:

  2. Detection Technology (e.g. Advances in Detection; Novel Methods; Rapid Detection Strategies)
  3. Treatment and Management Issues (e.g. Advanced Drinking Water Treatment Strategies; Indicators and Surrogates; Membranes and Pathogen Removal; Disinfection Challenges and Issues)
  4. Tropical Water Quality Issues (e.g. Microbial Source Tracking; Tropical Waterborne Pathogens)
  5. Disaster Planning & Management Issues (e.g. Source Water Protection; Monitoring Strategies; Risk Communication; Infrastructure Protection)

To have your submission request considered, save a local copy of this document to your computer, fill in the required fields and submit a copy to the planning committee via email at:

Abstracts received AFTER March 6, 2009 will not be considered.

Abstracts must fit within the boundaries provided and comply with word limits specified. Additional pages WILL NOT be considered.

The Global Conference on Microbial Contaminates in Drinking Water Planning Committee will select presentations.
