Instructions for ACE08 CEUs/PDHs (PDF)

What is a CEU?

A CEU is a Continuing Education Unit. AWWA and IACET define a CEU as equal to ten (10) contact hours of participation in an organized continuing education experience under responsible sponsorship, capable direction, and qualified instruction. Individual states may have different terminology, so please be sure to check with your state to verify the training criteria.  If you are unsure about whom to contact, visit the ABC Certification Center at http://www.abccert.org/certcontacts.html.

What is a PDH?

A PDH is a Professional Development Hour. AWWA defines a PDH as one (1) hour of training. PDHs are most often used to renew Professional Engineer licenses. Most states allow you to keep track of your own hours of training and activities. Tracking forms are available through AWWA.

Where Do I Earn CEUs and PDHs?

Seminars

AWWA offers seminars in the US, Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico. Seminar CEUs/PDHs are approved within the state or province where the seminar takes place. Many states accept approval by another state, but please check with your specific state to verify training credit acceptance before attending a seminar.

Online Learning

Online education is approved for each course in each state and province. Students can print their certificate when the last test is completed and passed. Monthly or quarterly reports are provided to the states by AWWA for students who have completed online courses.

Conferences

Select AWWA conferences offer CEUs for most workshops and some weekdays sessions. These conferences currently include:

  • ACE: Annual Conference & Exposition
  • DSS: Distribution System Symposium & Exposition
  • WQTC: Water Quality Technology Conference & Exposition

Volunteer Activities

Many states recognize participation in technical committees, technical presentations at conferences, and related attendance at conference sessions as qualification to receive PDHs. Please check with your specific state for additional requirements. Currently, Webcasts do not provide CEUs or PDHs.

How Does AWWA Obtain Approval for CEUs and PDHs Credit?

AWWA educational programs are taught by professionals who are leaders in their field. AWWA applies for approval within the state where the training event is held. In most cases, AWWA meets state guidelines for approved training for water professionals, and the majority of states will accept the CEU/PDH by reciprocity. Please check with your state to determine if the workshops or sessions you plan to attend will be accepted.

Certificates

  • At seminars, certificates are distributed on-site
  • For online learning, certificates can be printed after completing the final exam
  • At Specialty Conferences, attendees will be provided with a punched certificate verifying completion credit
  • At ACE, attendees can access a designated web site and print a certificate. Instructions provided on-site.
