December 19, 2007 Senator Chris Dodd, D-Conn., Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, and Ranking Member Senator Richard Shelby, R-Ala., today made the following statements in reaction to the Treasury Department semi-annual currency report that is required by law to be delivered to the Banking Committee:

“Earlier this year, the Senate Banking Committee enacted legislation to tighten the federal review and approval process for foreign investments in the United States, particularly by foreign governments. A Chinese sovereign wealth fund is now proposing to acquire a sizable interest in Morgan Stanley. As Chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, I need to know more about the specifics of this deal, including whether a CFIUS review is warranted, before coming to any conclusions about this matter.”
Senator Urges President to Take Action Against Genocide and Sign Legislation into Law
December 18, 2007 Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) today hailed final passage of his legislation which will provide several tools for pressuring the government of Sudan into halting the ongoing genocide in Darfur. The “Sudan Accountability and Divestment Act,” will now go to the President’s desk.
December 13. 2007 Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Gordon Smith (R-OR) today introduced legislation which will help prevent thousands of new pediatric HIV infections, improve the treatment of children living with HIV/AIDS throughout the world, and improve outcomes for HIV-affected women and families. The “Global Pediatric HIV/AIDS Prevention and Treatment Act of 2007” provides a comprehensive, five-year strategy to prevent new HIV infections in children and to ensure that the treatment of children infected with HIV keeps pace with their infection rate.

More Than 12,700 Are Unaccounted For; Black Market Flourishes December 12, 2007 Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) today called on Defense Secretary Robert Gates to join him in ending the inadequate tracking of U.S.-supplied military equipment in Iraq. In a letter to the Secretary, Sen. Dodd called his attention to a recent report from the Defense Department’s inspector general, which found that American officials have lost track of millions of dollars worth of armaments and equipment intended for the use of the Iraqi security forces.

December 5, 2007 Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT), Chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, today responded to Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson’s remarks on China’s currency reform.
“If Secretary Paulson truly believes that China’s move to a more flexible exchange rate policy is one of the most pressing issues for the United States and the global economy, I certainly hope he will not further delay updating the Congress and the public on the status of exchange rate policy. The Treasury Department’s semi-annual report was due to the Senate Banking Committee nearly two months ago, but it has yet to be delivered. Secretary Paulson should also use this report to cite China’s ongoing illegal currency manipulation.”
