WASHINGTON – In a speech to the Economic Club of Detroit on Monday, Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., will unveil the "Shareholders' Bill of Rights" which he plans to introduce in the Senate in coming weeks. Levin will reveal provisions of the bill at a news conference prior to his speech at 11:00 a.m. on Monday.

The intent of the bill is to provide American workers and shareholders with simple protections from the kind of manipulations and deceptions that left hundreds of thousands of Enron employees and shareholders with nothing but broken dreams for all their years of hard work.

As chairman of the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, Levin has been conducting an investigation into the fall of Enron. His investigation has focused on the role of the Board of Directors in overseeing Enron activities; the role of the auditor, Arthur Andersen; and Enron's use of offshore entities, special purpose entities, and limited partnerships. The subcommittee will hold a hearing on May 7 for which they will call selected members of the Enron Board of Directors to testify about the board's actions in light of the Enron collapse.
