VISAS FOR ENTRY INTO THE U.S.

  • Nonimmigrant Visitor Visas

How can I obtain a nonimmigrant visitor visa application for a friend or family member interested in visiting me in the U.S.?

Information regarding the application process for a temporary business (B-1) or tourist (B-2) visa may be found at the State Department's Bureau of Consular Affairs.

  • Immigrant Visas/Permanent Residency

There are three main types of immigrant visa applications:

I-130 Immigrant Petition for Alien Relative:
Petitions for alien relatives are only available for relatives of U.S. citizens or permanent residents. For further information concerning eligibility, or to download particular applications, please visit the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services website.

I-140 Immigrant Petition for Alien Worker:
Eligibility for obtaining an employment-based immigrant visa is determined by the Department of Labor, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, and the Department of State. For further information, visit the websites of the Department of Labor or U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

    Diversity Visa Application:
Each year, the Department of State holds a Diversity Visa Lottery that offers applicants an opportunity to enter a random computer generated lottery drawing. If selected, the applicant must meet certain requirements prior to consideration for an immigrant visa. To determine eligibility for participation in the lottery and receive further instructions, check the websites of either the Department of State or the Bureau of Consular Affairs.

  • Fiancé(e) Visas

How can I obtain a visa for my fiancé(e) if we are planning to marry in the U.S.?

If you are interested in bringing an alien fiancé(e) to marry in the U.S., you will need to file an I-129F Petition for Alien Fiancé(e) with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Only U.S. citizens are eligible to file an I-129F petition. You may download an application from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services website.

NATURALIZATION/CITIZENSHIP

If you are not a U.S. citizen by birth or did not acquire U.S. citizenship automatically after birth, you may still be eligible to become a citizen through the normal naturalization process. For more details on the eligibility requirements for naturalization and the application process, visit the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services website.
