COCHRAN COMMENTS ON FINAL PASSAGE OF CAMPAIGN REFORM BILL

Washington, D.C. – Senator Thad Cochran (R-MS) commented on the passage of S.27, the Campaign Finance Reform Bill, which was adopted by the U.S. Senate today:

"This was a hard fought victory for reform of the Federal Election Campaign Act. There were many Senators on both sides of the aisle who worked hard and effectively to achieve this result, but the credit for this victory must be given to Senators McCain and Feingold. It was their determination and perseverance that triumphed over long odds to win this battle, and I predict they will find a way to get this bill to the President's desk. No one can predict with certainty exactly how this law will work in practice. But, I think it will make the process more transparent, and candidates will have a better chance of controlling their own campaigns. And, I think the confidence of the American people in the political process will be restored."
