COCHRAN, LOTT RECOMMEND MISSISSIPPIANS FOR U.S. ATTORNEY AND U.S. MARSHAL APPOINTMENTS

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Thad Cochran and Trent Lott have submitted their recommendations to President George W. Bush for the offices of U.S. Attorney and U.S. Marshal for the Northern and Southern Districts of Mississippi.

The Senators recommended Jim Greenlee of Oxford for the position of U.S. Attorney for the Northern District. Greenlee has served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Northern District since 1987. After receiving his law degree in 1981 from the University of Mississippi he practiced law with the firm of Taylor and Whitwell in Southaven, Mississippi. Greenlee served as an officer in the U.S. Navy and attained the rank of Captain in the U.S. Naval Reserve.

Dunn Lampton of McComb was recommended for the position of U.S. Attorney for the Southern District. Lampton has served five consecutive terms as the District Attorney for the Fourteenth Circuit Court District. He also serves as Staff Judge Advocate for the 155th Separate Armored Brigade with the Army National Guard. After receiving his law degree in 1975 at the University of Mississippi School of Law, Lampton practiced law with the firm of Phillips, Regan & Lampton for four years.

Senators Cochran and Lott recommended Larry Wagster of Oxford be appointed U.S. Marshal in the Northern District. Wagster, a 21-year-veteran of the FBI, has served as a Court Security Officer for the U.S. District Court of the Northern District for the past two years . As an FBI agent, he was involved with planning, conducting and reporting investigations of alleged or suspected violations of U.S. law. Wagster, a graduate of the University of Mississippi, is the former President and owner of Magnolia Transit, Inc. He also served as an officer in the United States Marine Corps.

Nehemiah Flowers of Brandon was recommended for U.S. Marshal in the Southern District. Flowers has been an executive assistant for Senator Cochran for 28 years in Cochran's office in Jackson. Flowers also has an extensive military career. He was on active duty in the U.S. Army from 1965-1968. He is currently serving as a Brigade Command Sergeant Major for the 5th Brigade Health Services 100th Division, U.S. Army Reserve, in Millington, Tennessee. He attended the University of Oklahoma on a football scholarship and is a graduate of Belhaven College.

Cochran said, "I think all of them have the qualifications and abilities that will enable them to serve with distinction in these important positions."

"These individuals are very qualified Mississippians who Senator Cochran and I feel will bring the best combination of experience, integrity and balance to these very important federal posts," Senator Lott said. "This decision follows a thorough consultation in which Senator Cochran and I considered many well-qualified Mississippians for recommendation. I believe the new administration and our country will be well-served by these outstanding people."
