Sept. 11 remembered at Pentagon Memorial

Washington, Sep 11, 2008 -

U.S. Rep. Lynn Westmoreland marked the seventh anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks by attending the dedication of the Pentagon Memorial this morning.

“Today’s Pentagon Memorial ceremony was the most moving and effective dedication that I’ve ever attended,” Westmoreland said. “I hope that many Americans will come to visit this memorial which pays tribute to the lives lost that day. Seeing the names of those who perished, you remember once more that, for some families, the attack was a personal as well as a national tragedy.

“Seven years later, we mourn not only those who died that day but also those brave men and women in our armed forces who have given their lives since that day in the War on Terror.

“Even as Americans have returned to more normal lives, we have not forgotten the attacks. The repercussions of those attacks remain with us today – from our troops in the Middle East to the creation of the Department of Homeland Security to the tighter restrictions we face each time we fly on a commercial airplane.

“I hope that Americans take a little time today for prayer and reflection. It’s a time to remember our losses and renew our dedication to our nation and its security in a dangerous world.”
