Immigration

Immigration

Whether your family was part of the voyage on the Mayflower, part of the millions who stepped off a ship at Ellis Island, part of those who were brought for this nation against their own will, or if, like my own parents, you came to this country fleeing tyranny and searching for freedom, we all have a connection to immigration. Unfortunately, our current immigration laws have failed us. That is why I support fair and humane immigration reform that will enforce our laws, secure our borders, and protect our national security, while also reflecting current economic realities and respecting the core values of family unity and fundamental fairness. We must find a way to address the 12 million undocumented workers in this country, but we must do so in a sensible and humane manner.

Fixing our Broken Immigration System

I have been working with my colleagues to create and pass legislation that would enhance border security, while also providing a fair and reasonable way for the estimated 12 million undocumented workers currently in the United States to come out of the shadows and earn their United States citizenship. Creating Opportunities for All

Each year, an estimated 65,000 students graduate from high school with a strong academic background and sound moral character. However, these students are denied the path to success available to their classmates simply because they were brought to the United States as undocumented children.
