10/22/08: Yale Daily News - Raymond Carlson - Sen. Dodd: No fix for loan situation

The heightened scramble to procure and pay off student loans at Southern Connecticut State University has barely fazed nearby Yale, Democratic Sen. Christopher Dodd of Connecticut said Tuesday.

 

Students at SCSU, like millions across the country, are concerned about the availability of student loans as the nation’s credit market tightens, Dodd said in a presentation at the university’s campus near West Rock. While Dodd tried to allay the worries of SCSU students, he said no immediate fix for the national loan situation is in sight. Yale, on the other hand, is fortunate in being largely unaffected, he said.


10/22/08: Connecticut Post – Richard Lee - Dodd brings contract news to Norden Systems

NORWALK -- In the face of looming federal budget constraints, Sen. Chris Dodd, D-Conn., told employees of Norden Systems on Monday that $20 million has been included in the 2009 defense budget for an improved radar system to be built at the plant.

 

The allocation would allow continued development of the multi-platform radar technology insertion program, designed to replace air-to-ground systems on 17 Joint Stars Air Force aircraft.The new version would expand the surveillance system to air-to-air capabilities.

10/20/08: Dodd Announces Major Investment in Norden Systems

October 20, 2008

Senator Chris Dodd visited Norden Systems in Norwalk on Monday to announce new funding that will allow this defense contractor to continue building critical radar equipment for the U.S. Military. Dodd made the announcement in a meeting with company employees and also toured the plant.

Senator Chris Dodd met with local Hispanic business owners and community leaders today.  Dodd visited businesses and non-profit organizations along Park Street and discussed how current economic conditions are affecting the Hispanic community in Hartford.

Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT), Chairman of the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, held a hearing on today entitled “Turmoil in the U.S. Credit Markets: The Genesis of the Current Economic Crisis.”  The hearing focused on what led to our country’s economic crisis, and solutions to restore stability and soundness to our financial markets and the American economy.


10/16/08: Stimulus Legislation Needs Four Essential Components

On Tuesday, after meeting with Secretary Paulson, I indicated that I was supportive of the Administration’s plan to use the authority granted by the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act. In developing the financial rescue package, we in Congress recognized the need to attack this crisis on multiple fronts. I am encouraged that the Administration has chosen to do just that, and am hopeful that these efforts will help unfreeze our markets.


10/16/08: Dodd Statement on Release of Additional LIHEAP Funding

October 16, 2008

Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) released the following statement today on the Administration’s announcement that it is releasing the funding for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) that was included in a comprehensive funding measure passed by Congress and signed by the President last month.  The bill provided $5.1 billion for LIHEAP including over $125 million for the state of Connecticut, nearly twice the amount of funding Connecticut received last year.
