Getting Help – The Taxpayer Advocate
The Taxpayer Advocate Service is an independent organization within the IRS and is intended to protect the rights of the taxpayer.
The Taxpayer Advocate offers free, independent and confidential advice to taxpayers who have not been able to solve their problems through the normal channels in the IRS. The Taxpayer Advocate also offers assistance to people who are experiencing hardship. Hardship is defined as a situation in which action by the IRS would prevent someone from affording their basic necessities such as food, shelter, and utilities.
Note: The Taxpayer Advocate should be contacted only after you have tried to resolve your problems through normal IRS channels. See IRS contact information below.
To request assistance from the Taxpayer Advocate, you can fill out a form 911 and mail it or fax it to the Taxpayer Advocate of Indiana. You can also contact the Indiana Taxpayer Advocate at:
