The high cost of prescription drugs has been a primary issue of concern for many West Virginians, especially for those men and women living on
fixed incomes who rely on Medicare for health care coverage. Currently, Medicare does not pay for prescription drugs and, as a result, too many West Virginians have to decide between paying for their medicines or
paying for other basic needs, such as the mortgage or groceries. That is not a choice anyone living in the greatest country in the world should have to make.
Seniors should not have to choose between paying for medicine or paying for other
necessities. Studies and statistics show that the current Medicare program does not provide the coverage that Americans need today. That is why I am cosponsoring
legislation that would help to address these shortcomings and fortify the Medicare program, allowing elderly and disabled West Virginians to rest assured that their prescription drug needs would be met. |
