RESOLUTION FOR PARK CITY OPEN SPACE CLEARS SENATE ENERGY COMMITTEE
Hatch Lauds Legislation to Transfer 100-plus Acres to City for Recreation |

WASHINGTON – A House resolution that would transfer 108.5 acres of federal land to Park City for use as open space and recreation cleared the Senate Energy Committee this week.
Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), who is working with Rep. Rob Bishop (R-Utah) to secure passage of the legislation, said he was pleased with the committee’s unanimous vote on H.R. 838 and looks forward to seeing the resolution adopted by the full Senate.
“Park City’s emergence as one of the world’s premier resort destinations has brought unprecedented growth to the area,” Hatch said following the vote Thursday. “By securing the Gambel Oak and White Acre parcels, officials will have the local control they need to carefully plan and meet Park City’s needs for recreation and open space. That is good for the environment, good for residents – and it certainly doesn’t hurt business. It helps ensure skiers will continue coming to Park City instead of bolting for Vail, Aspen or Telluride.”
Gambel Oaks and White Acre, which total 88.5 and 20 acres, respectively, are owned by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and are nestled within municipal boundaries and encircled by development. The land would represent a sizeable and valuable addition to Park City’s total acreage set aside for open space and recreational purposes.
Language in the resolution would require Park City to maintain the Gambel Oak and White Acre parcels as undeveloped open space for recreation. The two tracts were identified in a 1975 BLM study for conveyance to the city.
