Press Release of Senator Feingold

Statement of U.S. Senator Russ Feingold on the Mumbai Attacks

Friday, November 28, 2008

"My thoughts are with the victims of the Mumbai attacks, their families and the people of India in the wake of this terrible tragedy. As we continue to learn the details about the attacks and those responsible for them, we must not allow them to undermine the progress that has been made to foster better relations between India and its neighbor Pakistan, two critical partners in our global fight against terrorism. In the past several years, both India and Pakistan have taken significant steps to strengthen their bilateral relations. This progress is critical to combating extremism throughout the region, as well as protecting our own national security, and must be continued with the strong support of other nations in the region and the broader international community."

Senator Feingold, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations and Intelligence Committees, traveled to both India and Pakistan in May 2008.
