Arguello, Brimmer to Receive Senate Hearing on Tuesday

DENVER, CO – The Senate Judiciary Committee has agreed to consider, in a hearing scheduled for Tuesday, September 9, the nominations of Christine Arguello and Phillip Brimmer to fill vacancies on the U.S. District Court in Colorado.

"I am grateful to Senator Leahy who worked with me over the weekend from his home in Vermont to find a way to move forward with nominations made so late in this congressional session," said Senator Salazar. "I am pleased that two Colorado nominees will be among the very small number of nominees that will be considered by the Senate Judiciary Committee before we adjourn. This agreement is not perfect, but it is balanced, and it gets us closer to filling most of the vacancies on the District Court more quickly than usual. I continue to believe that we should give potential nominees who do not necessarily have the strongest political connections a chance to be considered on their merits and their qualifications. The commission I established did that. I am proud of their work."

“It has always been my desire to have all three qualified nominees appointed to the bench for Colorado and I remain disappointed that we have not been able to fill these positions more quickly,” said Senator Allard. “The crisis facing our courts is real and to help alleviate our backlog of cases, we will be working diligently over the next week to support the appointment of Mr. Brimmer and Ms. Arguello to the bench.”
