SEN. SALAZAR’S STATEMENT ON MEETING WITH JUDGE ROBERTS TODAY

"Today, I met with Judge John Roberts to discuss in detail his nomination to be the next Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court. As a United States Senator, my constitutional duty is to make the most informed decision possible upon his nomination — one of the most important and far-reaching issues to come before the U.S. Senate.

I asked Judge Roberts many questions about how he would administer the Supreme Court and the federal courts, Western issues including water law, and questions about voting rights, women's rights, and the equal treatment of minorities. I appreciate Judge Roberts’ responses. I have not made a decision yet as to his nomination, and I await with great interest the information that will come forward in the Judiciary Committee’s hearings next week."
