Sánchez Holds First Annual Senior Health and Information Fair September 03, 2003
Lakewood On Wednesday, August 27th, Congresswoman Linda Sánchez (CA 39) welcomed area seniors to her first annual Senior Health and Information Fair held at the Lakewood Center Mall. Lakewood Mayor Joe Esquivel and Lakewood Mall General Manager Charlie Hallums joined Congresswoman Sanchez in welcoming seniors to the event.
“I organized a Senior Health and Information Fair because I wanted to make sure the seniors I represent have access to important information and services that can keep them safe and healthy,” said Congresswoman Linda Sánchez.
Over 500 seniors from cities across the 39th district attended the fair, where they were given free heath screenings including vision, hearing, blood and foot exams. Fifty local organizations were also on hand to provide seniors with information on protecting themselves from fraud, affordable housing options, public transportation, and financial planning.
Many local senior centers participated in the fair and provided free transportation to the event. As a result, seniors from Artesia, Cerritos, Hawaiian Gardens, La Miranda, Lakewood, Los Nientos, Lynwood, Paramount and Whittier were able to interact with the various health care, legal assistance, and federal agencies.
“I am thrilled the senior fair was such a success. Many seniors who needed assistance with social security, housing, and veterans benefits received help. Any senior that needs further assistance should contact my office at 562-429-8499,” said Sánchez.
Sánchez thanked all of the participating organizations for helping make this years fair a success. Without their support and commitment, the Senior Health and Information Fair would not have been possible.
