Superseded List, 1984 Edition | ||||||||||||||

This list was compiled by five documents librarians who volunteered to work on developing a list to help identify superseded material. The need for a more definitive list of superseded titles was raised at the meeting of Regional Depositories held in conjunction with the Depository Library Council to the Public Printer in St. Paul, Minnesota on April 27, 1980. A Superseded Documents Committee was formed and charged with the task of developing a list of items which depositories could discard in compliance with Section I of the Instructions to Depository Libraries. The Committee worked on developing a draft list to present at the second meeting of Regional Depositories held at the Council meeting in Alexandria, Virginia on September 28, 1980. Following discussion and recommendations from the attendees, the Committee revised the list and presented it to the Council's Depository Library System Committee, chaired by Pat Sloan, at the April 1981 Council meeting in San Antonio, Texas. On April 15, 1981 the Depository Library Council passed a resolution adopting the list and recommending that it be printed and distributed by the Government Printing Office. Following the Council meeting the final draft list was slightly revised, compiled by Pat Sloan and forwarded to the Government Printing Office.
