Issues
Seniors
Since my days in the Wisconsin State Senate,
when I served as Chair of the Senate Aging Committee, I have
been committed to helping seniors live with independence and
dignity as they age. Today in the U.S. Senate, I am working
to protect the Social Security and Medicare programs, lower
prescription drug costs, strengthen long-term care, and support
the Older Americans Act.
I have also worked closely with Governor Doyle and the Wisconsin
congressional delegation in pressuring the Administration
to grant a waiver extension for the SeniorCare program. On
February 13, 2007 I questioned Department of Health and Human
Services Secretary Michael Leavitt at a Senate Budget Committee
Hearing about the Administration’s proposed budget that
negatively impacts SeniorCare. The Administration’s
denial of the SeniorCare waiver is unacceptable, and I will
continue to ensure SeniorCare continues. Learn
about everything I have done to save SeniorCare.
