WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Senate Democratic Leader today objected to a motion by Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell to provide a 30-day extension of current law that averts a scheduled payment cut for physicians who provide Medicare services. Senate Republican Whip Jon Kyl made the following statement:
“This is the second time that the Majority has chosen a partisan route, walked away from a bipartisan compromise, and pursued a bill that it knows full well faces a presidential veto. I am disappointed that members on the other side continue with this political exercise, rather than protecting Medicare beneficiaries’ access to quality care.
“Even more egregious is that the Senate Democratic Leader now refuses to allow a 30-day extension of current law, which would prevent a 10.6 percent physician payment cut on July 1. Congress must not adjourn until passing this critical extension.”
