Senators Levin, Stabenow Announce Over $1.4 Million for Capital Area Transportation Authority

WASHINGTON- Senators Carl Levin, D- Mich., and Debbie Stabenow, D- Mich., announced today that the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded $1,435,833 to the Capital Area Transportation Authority (CATA) in Lansing.

“Now more than ever, we need efficient public transportation for the people of Michigan,” said Levin. “This federal funding will provide a critical boost to the Lansing area at a time when soaring fuel costs are stretching the system to its limits. This is great news for the many citizens of Lansing who depend on the bus system each and every day.”

“Public transportation like CATA enables many Lansing-area residents to get to important destinations, like work, school, or the doctor’s office,” Stabenow said. “These grants will help enhance public transportation service for people served by this transportation authority.”

This grant will be used to purchase new destination signs and up to 15 replacement buses, and will also help fund the renovation and expansion of CATA’s administrative facility.
