Levin and Stabenow Announce Over $5 Million To The Michigan Department of Transportation

WASHINGTON - Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., and Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., announced today that the Department of Transportation (DOT) has awarded $5,168,246 to the Michigan Department of Transportation for the purchase of buses, bus-related equipment, and bus facilities. This grant will benefit nine areas of Michigan, including Traverse City, Branch County, the City of Alma, Ionia, Livingston, Ludington, Marquette County, Milan, and Yates.

"Buses are the backbone of our public transportation in rural areas," said Levin. "By investing in our buses and bus facilities, we help the many people that rely on the bus system for their livelihood and independence, and we improve our environment."

"Every investment in Michigan's public transportation is an investment in the state's people and its economy," Stabenow said. "This funding helps assure that people in our state can depend on public transportation to get them where they need to go." The funding will help Alma build a new facility; Ludington and Marquette to continue the construction of facilities; and Branch County to rehab their bus storage facility.
