Scalise: Federal Government to Pay 90% of Gustav Recovery

Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Scalise today announced that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will increase the Federal share for Public Assistance to 90 percent for Hurricane Gustav recovery. The original authorization for Federal funding was 75 percent.

“This decision will provide tremendous relief to our local officials and communities as they continue to recover from Hurricane Gustav,” Scalise said. “We would all like to see FEMA pick up 100 percent of the Gustav recovery tab, but at least for now, our local governments only have to pay 10 percent as opposed to the 25 percent that FEMA originally authorized.”

 The cost-share adjustment is retroactive to the date for the President’s major disaster declaration for the State of Louisiana. Jefferson, Orleans, St. Charles, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa and Washington Parishes are all included in the cost share amendment.
